PAED PREFERRED REVIEW:

The Intensive Range has been available for many years now, and is used by many of my patients with moderate-severe eczema involving all parts of the body. This range can be used on less irritated/dry skin, but often the standard QV Cream / Bath Oil / etc are adequate for those children.

 

One of the most common issues I find in my practice is that eczematous skin is not moisturised often enough. It is sometimes necessary to apply product 2, 3, 4 times each day – whenever it dries out, reapply!

 

QV Intensive Moisturising Cleanser – this contains 60% glycerin as a humectant (absorbs water from the atmosphere and lower skin layers). It is a soap-free cleanser that is moisturiser enriched. It foams nicely, and is very easy to use. I’ve never had any patient reports of skin irritation. Is there evidence? Yes. Particularly for the benefit of glycerin in drawing water to the skin surface and retaining it in the stratum corneum, the top layer of skin. There is evidence that glycerin is a superior skin-conditioning agent compared to other commonly used humectants. This cleanser is available as a 250g flip-top bottle and 500g & 1kg pump packs.

 

QV Intensive Moisturiser – this is a paraffin based, water free, highly emollient product. It protects water loss from the skin via petrolatum and dimethicone. It is particularly effective in soothing broken skin, and in that respect, importantly does not sting, which can be problematic with other products. Children with itchy eczematous skin often break the skin, and are prone to stinging from skincare products. Repeated applications are necessary depending on skin dryness, and should not deter usage, as this merely reflects skin pathology rather than product effectiveness. This is available as a 100g tube and a 450g jar.

 

QV Intensive Cream – this is a new product, now complementing the Intensive Moisturiser. Its active ingredients are very similar. It is designed primarily to provide a product for those who prefer the application of a cream rather than the “wetter” paraffin-like version. It is available as a 100g tube and 500g pump pack. My experience with this product is minimal thus far given it’s very recent release, but appears to be as effective as the Intensive Moisturiser.
